Jordi Carreras

Jordi Carreras is an artist, DJ, music curator, trainer, author and founder of Music Curator. With a career spanning more than forty years, he is an undisputed leading figure in the professionalisation of DJing in Spain.
His career encompasses artistic creation, education, outreach and music curation – areas he has developed in parallel and which illustrate the breadth of his contribution to the sector.
He was a member of the expert committee of AEDYP, the Spanish Association of DJs and Music Producers, and subsequently served as the organisation’s representative in Catalonia.
Throughout his career, Jordi Carreras has performed at venues such as the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau Sant Jordi and Avenida de la Reina Maria Cristina during the La Mercè festivities in Barcelona. In Ibiza, he has featured on the line-up at Amnesia, Space, Café del Mar, Ushuaïa Beach Club and the Hard Rock Hotel.
His international career has taken him to perform in Portugal, Andorra, Germany, Croatia, Dubai and various countries in Latin America. In 2021, he became the first Spanish DJ to perform a set in front of the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
He has also held private sessions for U2 and Pearl Jam and, in 2025, performed the warm-up for all three dates of Lionel Richie’s Say Hello to the Hits tour in Spain. He has also been the official DJ at the Formula 1 and MotoGP Grand Prix races held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
He is currently the artistic director and resident DJ of Yo Bailé los 80s, a festival session dedicated to the great dance anthems of the decade.

Music curation for brands and venues
Since 2010, Jordi Carreras has been developing music curation projects for brands, venues and events, with particular expertise in the restaurant and hospitality sectors. His work involves defining musical identities and designing both programmed and live atmospheres, taking into account the nature of each project, its audiences and the different stages of the experience.
His career in this field spans Andorra, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Mexico and Chile. Some of the venues he has worked for have been recognised by the Michelin Guide or included in The World’s 50 Best.
Since 2012, he has served as the official DJ and live music curator for the UEFA Champions League’s Champions Club during FC Barcelona matches. This role has also extended to some of the club’s VIP areas, where music forms part of the institutional and corporate hospitality experience.
He was also one of the first DJs in Spain to incorporate soulful house and deep house into musical concepts designed for venues.

Commitment to vocational training
Since 1993, Jordi Carreras has been working continuously as a teacher specialising in professional DJ training. Over more than three decades, he has clocked up over 6,000 hours of teaching in one-to-one and group classes, and has trained more than 3,000 students. His career also includes more than 250 masterclasses and lectures delivered in Spain and Latin America.
Jordi Carreras played a key role in the creation, development and consolidation of Plastic as a leading brand in the training of DJs and music producers in Spain. In 1993, he co-founded Plastic Academy for DJs and Producers in Barcelona and served as lead tutor for the DJ course in two periods: from 1993 to 1998 and from 2010 to 2020. Between 2010 and 2018, he was head of studies and academic director. He also drove the project’s national expansion, coordinated the teaching staff across its various branches and developed the syllabuses for the Professional DJ, Level 2 DJ and Vinyl courses.
The content of his training programmes includes technical mastery of current DJ tools, the practice of music mixing techniques and applied methods, session planning and professional self-promotion strategies. As part of Plastic, he also created and organised Master Tempo, a national club DJ championship in which students from the network’s academies took part.
He was also one of those responsible for designing the content of the FP++ Specialisation Diploma in DJ & Music Production, a 40 ECTS in-house qualification awarded by San Jorge University.
He also spearheaded the creation of a technical certification for those completing the course, in collaboration with Pioneer DJ. Between 2012 and 2019, he was a trainer and official product tester for Pioneer DJ in Spain, the face and voice of their official video tutorials for the Spanish-speaking market, and responsible for the content published by the brand on Facebook and YouTube in Spain.
He also created and delivered the course ‘How to be a DJ for musicians and composers’ for SGAE and Fundación Autor at various venues across Spain. His work as a speaker also includes presentations at vocational training institutions, private universities and public programmes, notably the Flipart programme run by the Barcelona Provincial Council and Medellín Music Week in Colombia.
In 2012, he was consulted as an expert by the working group tasked with developing the official intermediate-level Disc Jockey qualification in Catalonia.
Between 2020 and 2025, he was a lecturer and content developer at Pro DJ Academy, where he created 15 specialised courses and 664 video lessons.

Between 1998 and 2011, Jordi Carreras was managing director of Revista Deejay, a publication specialising in electronic music and DJ culture in Spain. During this period, the magazine reached an estimated readership of 150,000 readers per month and was recognised at the 2007 Ibiza DJ Awards with the Media Award.
Within the same publishing group, he created and directed the Deejaymags Awards, a national dance music awards scheme backed by SGAE and Fundación Autor. In 2004, he also took on the role of editorial director of Trax, a publication that was later renamed Beat Magazine. His work on these projects contributed to the sector’s visibility and professional recognition, establishing him as an undisputed authority on the professionalisation of DJing in Spain.

Roots in radio and the media
Jordi Carreras’s career in radio began in 1984 at local stations such as Nova Antena – La Veu de Martorell, Dial 107, Ràdio Martorell, Ràdio Abrera, Ràdio Esparreguera and Ràdio Olesa de Montserrat. He subsequently worked for networks and stations such as Los 40 Principales, Cadena Nova, Popular FM, Cadena 100, Onda Rambla, Flaix FM, Loca FM, RAC 105, Interpop and Ibiza Global Radio.
He presented programmes such as Music Show, Dance People, Privé and Mary’s Place, the latter broadcast on RAC 105. He also created, produced and directed Plastic DJs Academy for Pioneer DJ Radio and Plastic Dreams for Ibiza Global Radio.
In 2006, he created Deejay FM Online, the online radio station of Revista Deejay and a pioneering initiative amongst specialist music media in Spain.

The art of mixing
Between 1987 and 1989, Jordi Carreras took part in the Catalan and Spanish rounds of the DMC World DJ Championship. He came third in Catalonia in 1987 and 1989, and in 1988 he was runner-up in Catalonia and came fourth in Spain. In 1991, he was runner-up in Spain in the DJ competition on the programme La quinta marcha, broadcast on Tele 5.
A direct protégé of Mike Platinas, he also forged a career as a music producer, megamixer, mixer and remixer, with around 25 recorded releases to his name. Notable among these are El Bimix, produced alongside Oriol Crespo under the technical supervision of Mike Platinas; Sábado Noche (Radio Mix); and Puzzletron, for which he created the megamix in 1993.
For the Portuguese label Vidisco, he recorded Super Mix 2 in 1987, on which he performed the scratches under the name Jess-C DJ, and, together with Oriol Crespo as the Scratch Boys, he produced the DJ mix for Super Mix 3 in 1988. In 2018, Discoteca Records also recognised his professional contribution to music.
In 1991, he co-created Club Beats, the first documented Spanish vinyl series conceived specifically as a tool for DJs. Published in four volumes up to 1994, it brought together rhythmic backing tracks, loops, jingles and effects intended for mixing.
Between 1990 and 1993, he was part of the rap group BZN Mc’s as a DJ.
Between 2012 and 2025, Epoque Music appointed him to oversee the selection and curation of the music, as well as the mixing and recording of the sessions for the five volumes of the series The Real Beach: the first, released as The Real Beach Sounds, and the following four as The Real Beach House.
